Ministry of Culture pays tribute to famous foreign-based dancer The Dance Directorate and the Ministry of Culture paid tribute to outstanding foreign-based dancer Sasa Queliz, at the Salón de Ensayos (Rehersal Hall) of the Palace of Fine Arts. The ceremony was attended by local dance personalities. She presented a plaque of recognition, which highlights the excellence and professionalism with which the artist has made the Dominican Republic known throughout Germany and the rest of Europe. Mercedes Morales, National Dance Director, spoke enthusiasticallyof Queliz’searly years, when Professor Miriam Bello had the honor to train her from the beginning in the art of dancing. She presented a plaque of recognition, which highlights the excellence and professionalism with which the artist has made the Dominican Republic known throughout Germany and the rest of Europe. Mercedes Morales also recognized Queliz’s contributions in transmitting her knowledge for the benefit of creativity and the arts. Speaking at the ceremony, Miriam Bellosaid that from the first moment she recognized the qualitiesof that young woman who danced with ease and knew she was going to be a great artist in the future, as it has been the case. For years, Sasa Queliz has beena member of the Sasha Waltz Guest, one of the most important contemporary dance troupes in Germany and throughout Europe. Sasa Queliz, a woman of few words, was very happy and excited to reconnect with great friends and teachers whom, at all times, she lavished with a smile. The artist came to the country under the auspices of the German Embassy in the Dominican Republic, under the administration of that country’s Ambassador, Thomas C. Bruns, who have facilitated the presentations and dance classes as a means to strengthening the cultural relations between the two countries.
