Gala for Winners of the XV International Piano Contest of Santander Paloma O’Shea
The Symphony Foundation, together with the Secretary of State for Culture, with the patronage of La Cadena Supermarkets, announces the presentation of the First and Second prize winners of the XV International Piano Contest of Santander Paloma O’Shea, one of the most prestigious and demanding piano contests for young people in the world. The concert will be held on Wednesday October 3rd at 8:30 pm in the Main Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theater.
“Symphony”, which has an agreement with the Isaac Albéniz Foundation – organizer of the Paloma O’Shea Competition – has been presenting the winners of the much sought after Santander prize for more than two decades. On this occasion, the winners of the 15th annual competition, celebrated in the summer of 2005 in the lovely Cantabra city, will also perform in our country, accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra.

Herbert_Schuch Herbert schuch from Germany, winner of the Silver Medal (Medalla de Plata) will play Ludwig van Beethoven’s Concerto No. 5, “Emperor.” In addition to his recent triumph at the XV International Piano Contest Paloma O’Shea, Mr. Schuch has won three competitions recently: the Casagrande Competition of Terni, Italy; the International Piano Competition of London and the Ludwig van Beethoven International Piano Competition of Vienna.
Alberto Nosè Alberto Nosè from Italy, winner of the Gold Medal (, Medalla de Oro ) will play Franz Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Alberto Nosè is the winner of many important international and national prizes. In 1991 he won the Jugend für Mozart competition. In 1997, he won first prize in the Società Umanitaria competition in Milan; first prize in the XV National Piano Competition of Venice (1998); second prize, with special distinction, in the International Piano Busoni Competition of Bolzano (1999).
In 2002, Mr. Nosè took fifth-place in the International Chopin Competition of Warsaw, first prize in the Vendôme Prize of Paris and second place in the London International Piano Competition. He also won first place in the Maj Lind of Helsinki and Luciano Gante of Pordenone (Italy) international competitions. Mr. Nosè also won the distinction of second prize in the Marguerite Long – Jacques Thibaud International Piano Competition of Paris (2004).
The National Symphony Orchestra will be directed by Alvaro Manzano. The concert program will include the Coriolanus Overture by Beethoven and “Fra Diavolo” by Auber.
