Sergio Gobbi Announces the Start of Dominican Film La Extraña

French producer Sergio Gobbi and his CompañíaInternacionalDominicana (CID) in conjunction with Joan Giacinti and Leo Proaño, announced that filming is underway of his second Dominican film La Extraña, to be directed by Leticia Tonos.

Filming is scheduled to start in June in the Dominican Republic. This is one of his most ambitious productions yet, with a budget close to one million dollars.

The movie will star Frank Perozo and Evelyna Rodríguez. The premiere is planned for spring 2014.

Throughout his career Sergio Gobbi has produced movies for Oscar winning directors like Roman Polanski, Robert Altman, Giuseppe Tornatore, Marco Ferreri, among other greats. With his vast experience he saw what he needed in Leticia Tonos as perfect for his productions.

La extraña was Gobbi’s first world class success, called L’eÌtrangere in its original version. This movie opened the doors for the president of Paramount Pictures, Charles Bluhdorn, to offer him a contract as director and producer.

The film is about Alberto Caba (Frank Perozo), owner of a publishing company in Santo Domingo, who is traumatized about an accident his ex-wife, Gaia, had after their divorce. Gaia is bedridden in a hospital where Alberto visits her weekly.

Overwhelmed by his job as he sees that digital technology is slowly overtakingpaper books thus causing a drop in his sales, and seeing the condition of his ex-wife whom he still loves, Alberto decides to escape to the exclusive Casa de Campo, where his family has property.

At the entrance he meets a beautiful woman by the name of Rosa (Evelyna Rodríguez) whom he shows inside. This initiates an ambivalent relationship in which the protagonist doesn’t know if he’s living a nightmare or a dream.

Sergio Gobbi also produced the French series Foreign Relations and the Dominican movie Cristo Rey.

La Extraña will be Leticia Tonos’ third film; she is the only female Dominican director to date. Her previous productions include LaHija Natural and Cristo Rey.
