Jorge Zorrilla Ozuna, director of INESPRE, said that since he assumed the position, he has been committed to restoring the institution to its original principles. The Executive Director of the Institute of Price Stabilization (INESPRE), reported today that over three million citizens have benefited from the program Pro-Comer, which was designed for selling food to people at affordable prices. This program is part of the Plan Quisqueya sin Miseria(Quisqueya Anti-Poverty Plan), an entity created by President Danilo Medina to encourage the development of opportunities that may help reduce poverty and social exclusion. Jorge Zorrilla Ozuna, director of INESPRE, said that since he assumed the position, he has been committed to restoring the institution to its original principles. “In only nine months we have opened ten Agro-Markets (supermarkets), which stay open from seven in the morning until seven at night, every day, and where homemakers can go and shop at affordable prices, with savings of 40% to 50% on basic commodities,” he said. Zorrilla Ozuna explained that the plans of action are combatting poverty and social inequality, “INESPRE, in addition to the 10 Agro-Markets, runs 22 permanent stations in areas of greatest poverty in the National District, Santo Domingo West and East, as well as in Alcarrizos in the Pantoja municipality. Every two weeks, INESPRE puts on farmers’ markets in the rest of the provinces around the country,” he stated. Mr. Ozunaexplained that, since its beginning, about three million Dominicans have benefited either directly or indirectly from the institution’s programs. Hundreds of farmers are also being supported by the sale of their products, which are either purchased by the institution or sold at farmers’ markets that are held regularly in every province except for in Pedernales, Bahoruco, Independencia and Elías Piña. The Agro Markets are being held February 27th at the corner of Luperó, La Hermandad de Pensionados, the UASD University campus, Pedro Brand, El Seibo, Santiago, Pedro Sanchez in Michez, Hato Mayor, Santiago and Sabana de la Mar. There are plans to open more markets inSalcedo, Santiago Rodriguez, La Romana, Higüey and la IsabelacAguiar. |
