roducers Amaury Esquea and Víctor Alonzo announced that Dominican Actor Carlos Espinal, based in the United States, will be in charge of the play “Peter El Rojo, The Gorilla (Red Peter, The Gorilla),” a monologue about immigrants, inspired by Franz Kafka’s story “Confesiones A Una Academia (A Report to an Academy).”


The play, written and directed by Espinal, is about a man who was once a gorilla, and who receives recognition from the Royal Academy of Sciences for having learned to behave as a civilized human being.


Presentations will take place on Thursday, June 6th, Friday,June 7th, Saturday,June 8th and Sunday,June 9th,in the Ravelo Hall at the National Theatre. Tickets are already on sale through CCN, Uepa Tickets atSupermercadosNacional, Jumbo, Movie Max andat the box office at the National Theatre. The cost per ticket is RD$500.00.


The June 9th presentation will benefit the VoyA Toa Por Luna Movement, which was created in 2011 to raise funds for a surgical operation for Luna Ortiz Ventura, a young child, and which continues to grow today in order to become a foundation to support different causes.


The play, written and directed by Espinal, is about a man who was once a gorilla, and who receives recognition from the Royal Academy of Sciences for having learned to behave as a civilized human being. During themonologue heconveys the real reasons that led him to behave as such, and his true feelings.


Espinal states that, after an arduous research, he wrote this playas an laboratory foracting, using his experience as a migrant-immigrant in the United Statesas a reference, as well as getting inspiration from some eventsfrom the life of QuintinChrisp, a famous character who was the inspiration for the popular song “English Man in New York.”


The producers feel optimistic and even intend to open the following week, as they understand that Carlos Espinal is one of the best Dominican artists available, and that the audience always awaits himeagerlybecause it is already used to the high quality ofevery staging that the Actor offers.


The play is being sponsored by: Veuve Elise, Personal Training Xtreme, Prosonido, KA. L Computer, Dauny Studio, Fundación Patria Visual, Escarramán Imagen de Negocios, Coplas, Telecentro, RNN, Supercanal, and Cuatro Patas.


The first staging of the play took place in September, 2012, at the Dante Hall Theater in New Jersey, under the sponsorship of the Stockton College of New Jersey, The Hispanic Alliance, The New Jersey Dominican House and El Sol Latino Newspaper.


Victor Alonzo is the play’s Executive Producer, and he says that he feels very privileged to have a technical team to match the quality of Carlos Espinal as an art figure.


Esquea Amaury is the Artistic Producer, while the Assistant to the Director is Luis Rodríguez;LillyannaDíaz is in charge of lights; Milton Cruz is in charge of sound; and Carlos Ortega and YeimyDíaz are in charge of the stage design. In addition, the art work has been produced by Dominican artist Hampton Rodríguez, who is also based in the United States.
