The Alcázar de Colón Museum presents “Noche de poemas y cantos”

The Viceroyal Palace MuseoAlcázar de Colón ofthe Ministry of Culture, presented the performance “Poetisas y Madres(Women Poets and Mothers),” an artistic and theatrical production that showcases Dominican literature, creating a space for visits, cultural education, advertising and reflection.

The event was presided over by the Museum Director, RaysaAstacio, who delivered the welcoming remarks; Dr. Carlos Salcedo, Chief of Cabinet at the Ministry of Culture, and Dr. RadhamésPolanco, Director of the performance.

The scenario created for this occasion took placeinside an imaginary “Cafe Theater” where, overcoming the barriers of time, poets Salomé Ureña, played by Luvil González, Quildade Oleo(MélidaGarcía), Marivel Gómez (Ángela Hernández), andPerlaVásquez (ChiquiVicioso), exchange opinions and express their points of view.

The performances and dialogues project, through the art and the artists, a connection between the past and the present, unveilingproposals regarding music, song, dance and dramatic interpretations.

Other participants were José Antonio Sánchez (bartender), Elena Gómez (dancer), Yudie Osorio (dancer), Miguel de León (technician) and Miguel Angel Osorio (sound).

Musicians, singers and dancers interacted in a special environment that was appreciated by the audience who applauded enthusiastically the portrayals and musical performances.

During the performance the literary pursuits and views in general of the women poets surfaced and served to emphasize the need for proper maintenance of the museums,so that the public can enjoy them.

This activity will subsequently be disseminated through a collection of CDs containing the recordings of each performance, and it will be marketed in schools and other institutions related to the project, as a historic and cultural legacy for posterity.

This plan has been designed by the Alcázar de Colón Museum, under the direction of RaysaAstacio. The following persons and institutions collaborated withthe opening event: the Director of the National School of Dramatic Art, Dr. RadhamesPolanco, the National School of Visual Arts, and the National Conservatory of Music.
