Labor Ministry Fixes 14% Raise of Minimum Salary in Private Industry Sector The Ministry of Labor, through the National Wage Committee, reviewed Resolution No.5/2011, and established a new national level minimum wage for laborers working in the private industrial sector. Backed by powers conferred in Article No. 11 of Regulation 512-97, dated December 10, 1997 of the Labor Code, the National Wage Committee determined the new rates. Resolution No. 2/2013 fixed the monthly minimum wage for the private industrial sector, watchmen and field workers. This provision establishes a wage of RD$11,292.00 Dominican pesos per month for those who provide services to companies that exceed RD$4 million pesos either already recorded or proposed profits. The resolution sets RD$7,763.00 pesos for medium-size businesses and RD$ 6, 880.00 for small companies. Likewise, it provides $234 pesos per day for 10-hour work days for farm workers; minimum salary will be increased or decreased proportionally when the work day is found to change in keeping with the time put in by workers. In addition, the National Wage Committee is setting at RD$9,526.00 monthly for watchmen and private guards at companies. The new salary rates under the Resolution will be retroactively applied starting from June 1st of this year. |
