Cristo Rey Film will premiere in December in all Dominican movie theaters
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic 7/25/2013

The Dominican International Company (CID – Compañía Internacional Dominicana), announced the completion of the film “Cristo Rey,” directed by Dominican filmmaker Leticia Tonos, and produced by the globally recognized executive producers Sergio Gobbi, Joan Giancinti and Leo Proaño.

Being aware that they have a story that contains a universal language, its producers are also preparing to release it in Europe, which will bring the Dominican cinema to other markets beyond the United States and the Dominican Republic.

In turn, film director Leticia Tonos informed that the Cristo Rey movie will be released nationwide in December of this year. She also added that preparations are being made for its international distribution, especially in European theaters, where the Dominican film already has the support for dissemination from producers Film De L´Astre and AVD Communications.

With this in mind, it has been subtitled in English and in French in France, after having made the post color and sound corrections in the Dominican Republic.

After having completed the subtitling process, the producers report that “Cristo Rey” will be participating in important international festivals, which they will announce as the dates when these will take place get closer.

“Cristo Rey is my second feature film; I am happy with how exciting the story is. I think we managed to capture the true spirit of the neighborhood,” says the director, who made her debut in 2011 with the film “La Hija Natural,” with which she almost received an Oscar nomination.

Both the producers and the director have the support of the neighborhood of Cristo Rey where they filmed the movie, but they also expect to receive the support of all the neighborhoods throughout the country, as the story of the film includes many elements of the day to day activities that take place in those sectors, bringing to the big screen the reality that is lived there.

Cristo Rey, promises exciting action footage that include raids and fights with machetes, the dembow (the music genre that prevails in these places), sequences of street dancing, all of which are portrayed in the film, but also the life atmosphere that is breathed there.

The film is about two half-brothers – a Haitian and a Dominican – who will enter into conflict for the love of the same woman. Janvier, of Haitian origin, is forced to work for the gang of El Bacá, the drug kingpin of the neighborhood, by caring for his younger sister, Jocelyn. Rudy, of Dominican origin and Jocelyn’s old boyfriend, does not welcome this arrangement and he will do everything in his power to stand in the way. Janvier and Jocelyn, having fallen madly in love and not having any future in Cristo Rey, decide to run away together.
