Creation of Satellite Account claimed to ensure the spur of economic development of culture in the Dominican Republic For the culture sector it is imperative to have a satellite account, because with it we can provide detailed information on the performance and economic characteristics of culture. The official provided details concerning the scope of this statistical instrument, whose creation is the responsibility of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic, in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture. Such endeavor is contemplated in the agreement that was recently signed between the Minister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez, and the Governor of the Bank, Héctor Valdez Albizu. Santos further explained that the Satellite Account of Culture is a consistent and systematic accounting mechanism, which is published annually, and contains information about the cultural sectors whose activities have an impact on the economy. This statistical resource facilitates the analysis of the impact of this sector on the National Gross Domestic Product (GDP). It is worth noting that the scope of this important initiative is not only limited to the Dominican Republic, since the Heads of State and Government of the member countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA) supported SICA’s Regional Project of Satellite Accounts of Culture during SICA’s XLI Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government, which recently took place in San José, Costa Rica, and in which President Danilo Medina Sánchez participated.
