Santo Domingo, August 26 2013

The Ministry of Culture made a commitment to the Association of Art Critics (ACROARTE – Asociación de Cronistas de Arte) to train its members in cultural journalism, through a degree program, training courses and seminars.
At the event, which was led by the Minister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez, and the President of ACROARTE, José Antonio Aybar, it was noted that the degree program in cultural journalism will be conducted with the endorsement of one of the universities in the country.

“The Ministry of Culture is committed to managing and sponsoring the participation of the ACROARTE members in international seminars and courses on cultural journalism, as well as in scholarships in that field of study,” said a statement issued by the two agencies.

They also agreed to establish the “Annual Award for Cultural Journalism,” to be presented to journalists and media outlets that broadcast and disseminate the activities that take place daily in the culture sector.
With this award, the aim is to promote the artistic and monumental heritage through the media, for which purpose both institutions will designate the corresponding jury. The items in the agenda were read by journalist José Tejada Gómez, Director of Communications and Audiovisuals at the Ministry of Culture, who chaired for two terms the Association of Art Critics.
Minister Rodríguez congratulated the new leadership headed by Aybar, and wished them success in their administration. He pledged his full support to the plans that such entity intends to undertake within the next two years.

He defined the art critics as allies of the Ministry because, with their daily work and through their respective media outlets, they value and provide encouragement to those who create works of art, as well as to the Dominican cultural managers.

He said that the Ministry of Culture wanted to make a commitment through a support plan aimed at improving the professional quality of the members of this journalistic entity, through the agreement that has been announced.

He noted that such initiatives have been inspired by the Government Program of President Danilo Medina, “and I am very pleased to implement them.”

In turn, the President of ACROARTE thanked the gesture of the Minister of Culture for having made a commitment to a specific program in support of the art critics. He noted that this initiative arose from the same concern that the new board of the organization he presides has about the need to improve the quality of the professional work of its members.

Other guests at the event in which ??the announcement was made were: Cristina Liriano, General Secretary of ACOARTE; Alcee de la Rosa, Secretary of Social Affairs and Recreation at ACOARTE; Moisés Balbuena, Secretary of Public Relations and Protocol at ACOARTE; Feliz Vinicio Lora, Yelitza Lora, Inmaculada Cruz Hierro, Zoila Puello, Sarah Hernández, Carlos T. Martínez, Napoleón Beras, brothers Manuel and Hermes, Sharmín Díaz, Victoria Estévez and Severo Rivera, among others.
