Education Ministry Opens Bidding for Proposals to Opt for Grant Funds The Community Participation Office of the Ministry of Education began reviewing 57 proposal that were submitted by social organizations as part of the first call this year made by the Joint Responsibility Government Grant Funds for the development of Innovative Educational Projects (PEI in Spanish). Dr. Pérez stressed the importance of the activity, “which links civil society with education, with innovative projects that are going to complement what corresponds to us as a Ministry.” Minerva Pérez, former director of Community Participation and current director of Orientation and Psychology, opened the activity that was held in the meeting rooms of the Ministry’s central office, on the first floor. Ms. Pérez was accompanied by the director of the Department for Non-Profit Associations, Luisa Mateo Diclóand the director of the Department of Inter-Institutional Strategies and Projects, Betania Leger, who were in charge of the bidding process, verification and registration of proposals in the presence of Dr. Elsa Gertrudis Pérez, Notary Attorney. Once all the bids were opened, Dr. Gertrudis Pérezprepared the legal papers with the results of the proposals submitted that met the criteria to move on to become evaluated. Dr. Pérez stressed the importance of the activity, “which links civil society with education, with innovative projects that are going to complement what corresponds to us as a Ministry.” She explained that the call for the tender was published in the press from last July 8th to August 21st. Meanwhile, Betania Leger said the process concluded with the presentation of 57 proposals and an allocation of 30 million pesos. The Grant Funds are financing collaboration agreements to strengthen strategic alliances with actors and sectors of civil society and local governments around the country through the presentation of innovative educational projects, selected through public competitions and that aim to stimulate education projects that are consistent with the policies and guidelines set by the Ministry of Education (MINERD) to strengthen and complement the work being done by the schools. SELECTION PROCESS OF THE PROPOSALS The proposals submitted will be evaluated by external professionalsbeginning with applications designed for this purpose. It was published as part of the documents in the bidding process. After evaluating the proposals that qualify with more than 70 points, they will then go to a Mixed Commission comprised of representatives of civil society organizations and MINERD representatives who will make the final selection of the projects that will be financed by the Ministry. The activity was attended by Community Participation educational assistant, Jenny Moya as well as representatives from other organizations participating in the tender.
