The exhibition “Domingo Liz: Mirada de Fuego/Esculturas de Silencio/Retrospectiva in memoriam (Domingo Liz: Glance of Fire / Sculptures of Silence / In memoriam retrospective)” will open on Thursday, September 12th, at 7:00 pm, at the National Gallery of Fine Arts, as part of the 27th Santo Domingo National Visual Arts Biennial 2013.


The Ministry of Culture and the Museum of Modern Art of the Dominican Republic, dedicated the 27th National Visual Arts Biennial to Domingo Liz, through an extensive retrospective exhibition that involves an in-tempo or chronological museum display of his paintings, sculptures, and drawings that spans over more than six decades of intense and fruitful creative career (1950-2012).


The exhibition will be displayed at the Museum of Modern Art and will occupy the two levels of the National Gallery of Fine Arts. The exhibition spans more than six decades of the artist’s creative production and consists of more than one hundred pieces, including paintings, drawings, and sculptures.


Domingo Liz was born in Santo Domingo on September 11, 1931 and died on February 14th, 2013. Shortly before his death, the Dominican government, through the Ministry of Culture, presented him the National Award of Plastic Arts 2012.


Liz is regarded as one of the greatest figures of the national arts. A man of great artistic conscience with a rich life experience, Liz was able to develop his creative talent and his work as an educator. He served for 42 years at the National School of Fine Arts and for 28 years at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo.


The central exhibition of the 27th Santo Domingo National Visual Arts Biennial 2013 is on display at the Museum of Modern Art of the Dominican Republic, located on Ave. Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte. It is open to the public daily from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, and with extended hours on Fridays until 10:00 pm.
