Commissioner of Culture in the U.S. says that the New York Dominican Book Fair strengthens Dominican identity

The Dominican Commissioner of Culture in the United States, Carlos Sánchez, highlighted the contributions of the Dominican Book Fair held every year in the city of New York, to promote the country’s culture abroad.

This cultural event will take place at the Boricua College, located in Manhattan, on September 27 to 29. The Minister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez, will attend the event, along with a delegation of Dominican writers.

The official indicated that the event has had an impact on various sectors of the Dominican community living in the big city, in order to ensure that the Dominican identity is preserved abroad. 

Sánchez said that he was satisfied with the support he has received from the Ministry of Culture for the creation of the “Ediciones del Comisionado (Commissioner’s Editions)” project, which seeks to support the work of the Dominican diaspora writers, by editing and publishing their works.

“Our Fair is a cultural celebration, because, even though the book is the protagonist, there are other cultural offerings such as theater, cinema, visual arts, and crafts,” he said.

This year’s Book Fair in New York will be dedicated to writer René Rodríguez Soriano, who received the National Short Story Award, for the quality of his narrative, his great poetry, and his enormous efforts to disseminate and promote Dominican and Latin American literature.
