![]() | Décimas: Ancient Form, New Stories This talk and workshop will examine how the décima, as an over 500 year-old tradition of the Ibero-Afro-American world, has nourished the music of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic—most specifically jíbaro music and bachata. This event aims to highlight and give homage to the connections between these two genres and the communities that developed them. It is also geared toward giving attendees the rudimentary knowledge to compose décimas. The event will be led by Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Raquel Z. Rivera, Dominican poet and repentista Dagoberto López, and Dominican guitarist Yasser Tejeda.
