Tourism Cluster and Fomín Make Road Signs for New Tourist Destination Areas With the objective of boosting interest in tourist attractions in the western part of Puerto Plata, the FOMIN-BID “Tourism management based on cultural resources” project, put forth by the province’s Tourism Cluster, initiated the process of installing signs and billboards on main roads and pathways that connect communities of the area. The signs have been placed so as to easily direct anyone to places of interest such as: La Isabela Histórica, Estero Hondo Park and the Manatees, Los Hidalgos: Columbus’s Route as well as, Altamira Eco-trail, Cacao & Merengue 100% (Guananico) and in Imbert: Artisanship and Nature. These destinations are part of the 17 touristic proposals that FOMIN is working on with the help of the province’s Tourism Cluster. The initiative consists of placing informative signs on pathways in order to direct visitors towards other places that offer unique experiences. This initiative is included in the plans established by the project, aimed at broadening the experiences Puerto Plata has to offer. The projects coordinator, Karina Abbott, stated that this project seeks to make these destinations more accessible by road for tourists, destinations that previously lacked any form of signage. She explained how the placement of road signs for the most representative spots in the area is one of the most important aspects in the economic underpinnings of these destinations, seeing as they make touring the area easier for visitors. |
