The Minister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez, presented the first check to the 133 members of the Dominican Orchestral Theatre (TODO – Teatro Orquestal Dominicano), during an event that took place in the Ramón Oviedo Art Hall at the Ministry’s headquarters. TODO is made of youth with disabilities.

The following persons attended the ceremony together with the Minister: Celsa Contreras, MINC’s Director of Human Resources; María Ortiz, Director of TODO; Ondina Matos, Director of the National Lyric Company; and, Elizabeth Crooke Morel, Director of the National Folkloric Ballet, among others.

TODO was founded during Rodríguez’s administration and it made its debut this year at the Carlos Piantini Hall of the Eduardo Brito National Theatre. TODO recently performed at the National Palace during the Christmas tree lighting, an event that was led by President Danilo Medina and the First Lady Cándida Montilla de Medina.

While addressing those in attendance, the official said that “this contribution is possible because of your work, so that people get to know your talent, which is what has allowed you to become part of the Ministry of Culture today.”

Rodríguez urged the youth to continue their education and to further cultivate their artistic skills, as they have done so far, since this is the beginning of the Dominican Orchestral Theatre. He concluded his remarks by wishing them a Merry Christmas.

Meanwhile, Ortiz said that the check is a contribution for their artistic training, and encouraged them to continue nurturing their skills and preparing themselves for their three remaining performances of this year.

These presentations will be held on Saturday, December 7th, during the Long Night of the Museums, at the Santo Domingo Fort; on Tuesday, the 10th of December at the Palace of Fine Arts; and, on Friday, December 20th, in the city of Moca.
