Francina Hungría presents inclusion projects to Margarita Cedeño At a meeting in the office of Vice President Cedeño de Fernández, Hungría presented the inclusion projects for the blind which she dreams to implement with government support. Dr. Margarita Cedeño de Fernández met in her office at the National Palace with Engineer Francina Hungría, with whom she spoke about some inclusion projects for the blind, which Hungría wants to implement after having received training in the United States that has allowed her to adapt to life in society. Hungría explained to Cedeño the skills a blind person can develop if given the opportunities that currently do not exist in the Dominican Republic. She proposed the construction of a Bilingual School of Technology, which would help blind children in a positive way. The idea was immediately welcomed by Cedeño de Fernández, who proposed to start implementing the inclusion project within the 93 Community Technology Centers and through the 34 Progresando Training and Production Centers. This would immediately allow blind boys and girls from the various provinces to have the opportunity to integrate into society and use technology. Vice President Cedeño de Fernández recalled that the Dominican Republic’s Children and Youth Library (BIJRD) has some Audiobooks and some Braille books, including the Bible, which it makes available to the blind. In addition, the Library has all the necessary facilities for the disabled. She also informed that the Program of Opportunities for Employment through Technology in the Americas (POET – Programa de Oportunidades para el Empleo a través de la Tecnología en las Américas) has allowed some 280 people with disabilities to receive training through the Community Technology Centres in Sabana Grande de Boyá, Villa Mella, Favidrio (San Cristóbal), El Seibo, Hato del Yaque, Guayabo Dulce, Navarrete and Boca Chica. It must be recalled that Francina Hungría was shot in the face by two men while they tried to hijack her car. Since then, Engineer Hungría began her struggle to save her vision. To this end, she was taken to the city of Miami, where after having undergone three operations with negative results, she began to prepare to learn to live in society as a blind person.
