Constanza Carnival Kick off of the Constanza Carnival

The official launching of the Constanza Carnival took place in the Ramón Oviedo Art Room, in the presence of the Minister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez. The Carnival will start on February 1st and will run until February 27th.

Municipal and provincial officials attended the event. They were led by Senator Euclides Sánchez.

The following persons also participated in the ceremony: José Hidalgo Díaz, from the Council of Constanza Carnival enthusiasts (Consejo de Carnavaleros de Constanza); Vinicio Victoriano, from the Constanza Municipal Council; Ybelise Abreu, Councilwoman and queen of the event; Orlando Lora, Deputy Minister of Culture; Jefri Durán, Jhony Tactuk and José Hidalgo Díaz.

Minister Rodríguez said that when we use our roots, that is the only thing that we really have to compete with; in the simplicity of the Dominican culture there is creativity. “The carnival is the expression of a people. The Dominican people have a very diverse culture, and that certainly allows them to be very creative.”

He announced that a float from the Ministry of Culture will participate in the various carnivals throughout the country.

This year, the Constanza Carnival intends to promote the culture of the area, its rich folklore, its agricultural industry and its ecological niches.

In this edition, to warm up, the Constanza Carnival will carry out activities on Wednesday and Friday of every week, and on Saturday and Sunday the carnival groups will go out. Various artistic activities will be conducted in that framework throughout the month of February.

A new feature in this year’s Carnival is the art of body painting, which consists of a parade of people whose bodies have been painted by visual artists. Architect Japonesa Capellán, Vinicio Victoriano and Orlando Lora offered additional details on the carnival.
