Tourism Cluster and FOMIN will install a crafts market in Puerto Plata Starting on Saturday, February 1st, the Tourism Cluster of the Puerto Plata Destination, through the FOMIN – IDB project “Tourism Management based on Cultural Resources,” will launch a crafts market in the Historic Center of the city, as part of the new Cultural POP tourism product. Every Saturday and Sunday, between the hours of 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Mr. Eduardo Comprés will facilitate a space in his property located at the corner of the Beller and José del Carmen Ariza streets, where 22 tents will be installed to exhibit a variety of crafts from Puerto Plata. During the weekly fair, about thirty local artisans that are the beneficiaries of the “Strengthening of new SMMEs in the tourism sector of Puerto Plata” competition will participate, among others. They will showcase their products, which are manufactured utilizing different types of materials such as ceramics, silver, crochet, wood, bone and stone. This initiative is carried out with the aim of promoting the local crafts, and to appreciate the creativity of the artisans of the province, by promoting and highlighting the aesthetic feeling, skill and technical mastery of these artists. In addition to the exhibition and sale of these items, the space will be used for conducting other dynamic activities of promotion and dissemination of the local culture, with a view to making the displays more attractive.
