Minister of Culture visits Chinatown

The Minister Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez, together with his Excellency the Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Tomás Ping-Fu Hou, attended a show on the occasion of the celebration marking the beginning of the Chinese New Year dedicated to the “Wooden Horse”.
Singer and songwriter José Antonio Rodríguez enjoyed the celebration with his wife Mónica Despradel, as well as the Eastern diplomat with his wife María Hsiao, in Chinatown, on Avenida Duarte, where a tent was placed and hundreds of people attended.

Other members of the Chinese community who were present were the new President of the Dominican Medical Association, Dr. Pedro Sing, and Haivangoe NG Cortiñas, former national Comptroller.

Amid the joy and the excitement, the invited guests enjoyed songs by Trío Santo Domingo, of the Ministry of Tourism, who performed, among other songs, “Querube” and “Sarandonga”.

While the Chinese counterpart was in charge of the dance group Los Leones, who performed some dance pieces of the Chinese culture and traditional music, with songs and dances, and interacting with the public.

Su Kin Fung, President of the Chinese Community, expressed his joy and congratulated all participants, especially Minister Rodríguez and all the associations of families of that great nation, who work in the trade sector and live with dignity in the Dominican Republic.

He spoke of the importance of keeping alive each of the ancient traditions and said that with the New Year comes a new phase that he hopes will be successful.

The Horse is a symbol of strength, love, patience, stability, and determination, and for those born in the year of the Horse, it is the time to start something new.

Everyone attending the celebrations received a special toast, while they enjoyed the millennial traditions of one of the ancient cultures of the world.
