This Friday, February 14th, the Ministry of Culture will recognize music director, pianist, and composer Rafael Solano, for composing his son “Por Amor”, one of the most significant romantic pieces of the twentieth century.


The Minister of Culture José Antonio Rodríguez will head the event that will take place on Valentine’s Day to celebrate Maestro Solano who, when he wrote the song “Por Amor”, made a valuable contribution to the social and sentimental coexistence of humanity.


The tribute will be held in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Fine Arts, starting at 5:00 pm; friends and family of Maestro Solano have been invited to the event.


“Por Amor” is the most widespread Dominican song throughout the world. With that song Solano won the First Festival of Dominican Popular Song in 1968, in the voice of Niní Cáffaro, who together with Lucha Vicioso, accompanied by Maestro Jorge Taveras, will render a musical tribute.


The song “Por Amor” has been interpreted by renowned singers worldwide, such as Niní Cáffaro, Lucho Gatica, Marco Antonio Muñiz, Vicky Carr, Jon Secada, and Plácido Domingo.


Solano is the author of over one hundred compositions of various genres spanning romantic, folkloric, as well as choral and religious, plus merengue.


About Solano


Born in Puerto Plata on April 10th, 1931, he is one of the greatest orchestra conductors, a successful and established composer of songs that have made their own musical history, and a teacher to several generations of musicians and singers.


He was the Ambassador to UNESCO from 1982 to 1986 and was awarded the highest prize the Dominican government grants to outstanding artists.


He composes concerts for the Choir of the First Cathedral of the Americas and participates in renowned radio and television programs. The life and career of this ever affable Dominican musician are full of achievements and satisfactions.
