BIJRD presents exhibition “Mujeres de la Patria” The exhibition is an opportunity for students to learn about the contributions of each of these heroines in the process of achieving national independence. Santo Domingo.- The Vice presidency of the Republic and the Children and Youth Library of the Dominican Republic (BIJRD) present the exhibition “Mujeres de la Patria (Women of the Homeland)”, which will be open to the general public until March 9th. This exhibition honors the women that participated in the independence who, with their great contribution and sacrifice, endorsed the country´s feeling and were part of the legion of committed ladies, whose example is the best model of civics in the history of the nation. The exhibition comprises a total of 23 color posters showing the faces of these heroines, plus text explaining the participation and achievements of each of them during the process leading to the national independence. The main characters of the exhibition are Manuela Diez, Rosa Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, Concepción Bona, Josefa Antonia Pérez de la Paz (Chepita), Filomena Gómez de Cova, María de Jesús Pina y Benítez, Micaela de Rivera, Floriana Febles, María Baltasara de los Reyes, Ana Valverde, Petronila Abreu Delgado, Juana Saltitopa, and Rosa Montas de Duvergé. “These women committed with fervor to the patriotic cause. They were loyal followers of the ideas of Founding Father Juan Pablo Duarte; they were women who gave their lives for the cause, friends, sisters, mothers. Women that, from different scenarios, fought for us to be free”, said the Director of the BIJRD, writer Dulce Elvira de los Santos. BIJRD is the first Dominican public library especially dedicated to children, adolescents, and the youth of the country. It involves their families in a cultural and technological environment dedicated to creating reading habits, promoting positive attitudes, and facilitating knowledge and literacy in the use and utilization of information.
