Ministry of Culture announces “Long Night of the Museums” with an attractive artistic program
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, 03/12/2014

The Ministry of Culture, through the General Directorate of Museums, announced the first edition of the 2014 “Long Night of the Museums, spring version”, which will take place on Saturday, March 22nd, 2014.

On that day, Dominican families may visit the museums and monuments free of charge, an initiative that seeks to facilitate the access of the population to enjoy the historic, cultural, and artistic wealth of the Dominican Republic.

As happened last year, similar events will be organized at the beginning of each season during 2014, a project that was initiated under the provisions of the Minister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez.

On Saturday, March 22nd, admission to the museums will be free of charge from 9:00 am until midnight. It was also reported that among the open establishments will be El Alcázar de Colón, lNDOTEL’s Centre for Telecommunications (Centro de las Telecomunicaciones), Museo de las Casas Reales, Fortaleza Ozama, Centro de la Imagen, Cultural Center of Spain, Casa de Teatro, Museo Trampolín, and the Museum of the Dominican Family.

Ana María Conde, Director General of the Museums, reported that an attractive program of artistic, historic, and gastronomic activities will be carried out on the first Long Night of the Museums and that those who are interested may participate in them.

She said that the spring version will highlight what is native, the music, dances, costumes, and everything typical of the interior of the country.

In addition, as a novelty, “Heritage on Wheels” (Patrimonio sobre Ruedas) will be featured, and visitors will be able to explore the museums using the TRIKKE, which will be available for RD$400, said Ana María Conde.

The Long Night of the Museums began in 2008 and to date it has experienced an increase in visits to the various museums in the Colonial City.

Initially, the event took place once a year, but with the arrival of José Antonio Rodríguez to the Ministry of Culture a decision was made to organize it at the beginning of each season: spring, summer, fall, and winter.
