Dominican-French Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the debate: “When Prosperity is not Shared”, with lecturer Magdalena Lizardo, Deputy Minister of Economy, Planning and Development The Dominican-French Chamber of Commerce (CCDF) held the Sustainable Debate “When Prosperity is not Shared: The Weak Links between Growth and Equity in the Dominican Republic”, as part of its ongoing 2014 series of activities aimed at those interested in issues of responsible business and the economy. This unique event was attended by the President of the CCDF, Joan Giacinti, and Magdalena Lizardo, Deputy Minister of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD), as the guest lecturer. Lizardo made possible a study with the same name of the gathering, by providing access to data from the MEPyD that was necessary for the World Bank (WB) to conduct the study mentioned above. She also provided comments and suggestions to strengthen the analysis and interpretation of the data provided. The aforementioned study identifies three broad objectives to address the underlying causes of economic inequality in the Dominican Republic:
After the roundtable discussion, participants shared a cocktail sponsored by companies and organizations committed to responsible economy, such as: Orange Dominicana; eras Advertising Agency; El Catador (The Taster); the Oliver & Oliver Rhums; Peugeot; Macadamia La Loma; Induveca; Carimango; MEPyD, Pernod Ricard; La Isla del Marisco (The Seafood Island); and, Quinta Dominica. Thanks to the funds raised at this gathering, the Dominican-French Chamber of Commerce will continue planting macadamia trees and, thus, the audience contributed to the reforestation efforts by participating in the event: The Sustainable Debates, which are held every month at Quinta Dominica, aim to create a space for reflection and proposals to address important issues related to sustainable development and responsible economy.
