Progress in the tourism sector in Puerto Plata is reported in DATE 2014

As part of the celebration of the fifteenth edition of the most important fair of Dominican tourism marketing, known as the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE), and taking advantage of the presence at the event of authorities, tour operators and international media, the Tourism Cluster of the Puerto Plata destination offered a press conference to report on the progress and projects related to the tourism development in the northern region of the country.

In her intervention, Jakaira Cid, Executive Director of the institution, referred to the important moment of tourism revival that Puerto Plata is experiencing as a result of the initiatives that have been undertaken by the public and private sectors in the province.

She cited as major steps forward the renovations that the city’s Historic Downtown is undergoing, the amendment to Law 158-01 promoting tourist development, and the construction and startup of the cruise terminal of the Carnival, Amber Cove, in Maimon, later this year.

The Executive Director of the Tourism Cluster took the stage to announce the date and venue of the third edition of the Discover Puerto Plata MarketPlace 2014 fair, which will take place on October 1 – 3, at the Ocean World complex in Cofresí.

She said that, as part of the innovations that the only exhibition of this magnitude to be held in the Northern region of the country will present, is the inclusion of the segment of yachts, which seeks to attract nautical tourism to the Northern Coast.

The following representatives of the destination also took the floor: the provincial Director of Tourism, Lorenzo Sancassani; Roberto Casoni, President of the Hotel Association of Playa Dorada; José Natalio Redondo, President of the Dominican Republic Rescue Group; Ambra Attus, Executive Director of the Northern Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism Companies (ASHONORTE – Asociación de Hoteles, Restaurantes y Empresas Turísticas del Norte) and Tomás Callender, President of the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of Sosúa and Cabarete, ASHORESOCA (Asociación de Hoteles y Restaurantes de Sosúa y Cabarete).
The Executive Director of ASHONORTE referred to the publication of the third edition of the “Discover Puerto Plata 2014-2015” Guide, which was launched at the DATE event. The guide is an editorial product that gives exposure to some of the large inventory of tourism attractions that are available in the area, including historical sites, beaches, excursions and sports, buying opportunities and restaurant and bar options to enjoy its rich gastronomy.

For his part, Callender referred to the rich natural and cultural aspects of Sosúa and Cabarete, and, as an example, he announced the Multicultural Food Festival that takes place in Sosúa, which seeks to consolidate itself as the largest gathering of world flavors that takes place in the Northern region. For this edition of the festival, he confirmed the support of five of the Embassies accredited in the country.
