The Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic announced its participation in the commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the last game played by the Montreal Expos at the Olympic Stadium. During the event, former players of the franchise that belonged to the Major Baseball Leagues for more than four decades will be recognized.
The information was offered by Cosette García, Director of the Office of Tourism Promotion of the Ministry of Tourism (OPT) for Montreal, who confirmed that former players Pedro Martínez, Moisés Alou and former technical director Felipe Rojas Alou, will be honored for their contributions to the development of their careers with the organization.

“We joined this great tribute to Pedro Martínez, and Felipe and Moisés Alou, for being three extraordinary men of baseball, worthy representatives of the Dominican Republic, and role models in every way. I think this will be a unique experience for the attendees, as we expect to receive some 120 thousand possible passengers at our destination on that weekend. They will have the opportunity to enjoy these games, in addition to appreciating the new advertising campaign of our country in Canada,” said Cosette García.

The Director of the OPT Montreal confirmed that tickets for both games are sold out, which guarantees a presence, something that the Office of Promotion takes advantage of to reach the public in Canada, which maintains a major league team in Toronto.

The celebration of the ten years of the last game of the Expos at the Olympic Stadium will be held on March 28 and 29, during the preseason game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Mets, which, undoubtedly, will remain in the memories of the fans.

The event is also conducive to promoting the Dominican Republic as a tourist destination, especially in the Canadian market, which is the number two country in tourist arrivals to our nation. In addition, Canada is the only country that still has a franchise in the Major League Baseball outside the United States.

The Dominican Republic Office of Tourism Promotion in Montreal joins the effort of the major tour operators, such as Air Transat, Sunwing, Tours Mont Royal and Voyage Gendron and others.
The Montreal Expos were born in 1969 as a team of the National League, until 2004 when they became the Washington Nationals.

Felipe Alou was their technical director from 1992 – 2001, winning 691 games. Alou was named the 1994 technical director of the year by the National League, and became the most successful manager in the team’s history.

Pedro Martínez, who is eight-times All-Star, three-time winner of the Cy Young and Champion of the 2004 World Series, played for the Expos from 1994 to 1997, thereby becoming one of the best pitchers in baseball.

Moisés Alou wore the Expos jersey for six years (1990 – 1996) and is considered by many as “one of the best outfielders of the 1990s and the 2000s.” In 1994, the Expos had the best record in the major league; however, the strike that occurred that year denied them their chance to reach their first World Series.
