Ministry of Culture and UNESCO Office Sponsor the IX Mexico – Dominican Republic Cultural Exchange The opening ceremony of the IX Mexico – Dominican Republic Educational and Socio-Cultural Exchange, sponsored by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), was held at the Lawmakers Club in Santo Domingo East. Authorities from Mexico and from the Dominican Ministry of Culture attended the event. Representing the Ministry of Culture and the local office of UNESCO, Dr. Luis O. Bréa Franco addressed the audience, as well as the Mexican Consul in the country, Mr. Carlos Alfonso Villeda. In his speech, Luis O. Bréa said “it gives us joy to know that, for the ninth time, two Latin American nations will enjoy this kind of rapprochement”. He said that on this occasion he invited the sister schools to aim their activities to promoting the values ??on the importance of the cultural and natural heritage of both countries, adding to this the implementation of a genuine dialogue between their respective cultures. For his part, Carlos Alfonso Villeda spoke about the growth of trade between the two nations, which has reached high marks in recent times. He also announced that soon there will be direct flights between the two nations with a view to increasing tourism. The blessing ceremony fell under the responsibility of Pastor Willy Bayonet, and in the evening the following persons received special recognition: Ambassador José Ignacio Piña, represented by the Mexican Consul; Cristina Lizardo, Senator of the Province of Santo Domingo; and, Ms. Ismaela Tavárez, Director of the Las Américas school.
