The Transformation of Public Libraries is Considered the Big Challenge of Dominican Society Transforming public libraries in community involvement environments for learning is a major challenge and commitment for Dominican society, stated the Director of the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Library, Diómedes Núñez Polanco. To achieve a quality education we must have quality libraries turned into resource centers for learning and research, as has been proposed in the Pact for Education, said the official. Libraries are the cross-cutting axis that provides the necessary strengths to support the educational process and the promotion of reading, declared Núñez Polanco. While participating in the presentation of the play “Algo nació en noviembre” (Something was born in November), by the BIBLIO theater troupe, at the Juan Bosch Auditorium of the BNPHU, the historian also noted that “from the use of information technologies and communication in the libraries, access to computers connected to the Internet, full text databases, to educational software that offers updated contents to help strengthen the subjects taught in school, as well as other electronic resources, are essential to achieving the comprehensive development of our students.” He stressed that this is an objective that public libraries aim to achieve through the educational pact, which confirms their role in their offer of quality to accomplish a quality education. “Something was born in November” is a tribute to Patria, Minerva, María Teresa, and Dedé Mirabal, through dramatized poetic fragments. Teatro BIBLIO is composed by employees of the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Library and is directed by playwright Iván García Guerra, National Theatre Award.
