The new Dictionary of Dominican Spanish will be released in Puerto Rico The Dominican Academy of Language (ADL) will release the new edition of the Dictionary of Dominican Spanish in the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico, on April 10th, 2014. The following persons will be in charge of presenting the lexicographical work: Bruno Rosario Candelier, Fabio Guzmán Ariza, director and member of the Dominican Academy of Languages, respectively; and Maia Sherwood, member of the Lexicography Commission of the Puerto Rican Academy. This edition, which was produced under the auspices of the Guzmán Ariza Foundation, will be released at the headquarters of the Puerto Rican Academy of the Spanish Language, located in Old San Juan. Words and phrases such as vaina, yipeta, chin, pájaro (referring to a homosexual), pato macho, creerse la última coca-cola del desierto, prende la luz, lechón, pariguayo, ñapa, ahí fue donde la puerca retorció el rabo, or jalar aire,are just some of the examples included in this dictionary. Fabio Guzmán stressed that it is “the most iconic and important work published by the Dominican Academy of Languages since its inception in 1927”. Contributors who included their publications in the dictionary are Fabio Guzmán,Roberto Guzmán, Domingo Caba Ramos, María Dolores Jiménez, Teresa Melián, Yolanda Garisoain Iribarren and Ruth Ruiz, with the coordination of María José Rincón and the supervision of Bruno Rosario Candelier.
