Meeting of National Slave Route Committees of Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic Conclude their Santo Domingo Meeting Santo Domingo, December 6, 2007— Last Wednesday December 5th concluded the successful meeting of the National Slave Route Committees of Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The groups gathered to evaluate the worked they’d done throughout the past two year period, 2006-2007. The Slave Route Project was initiated by UNESCO in 1994 with the goal of breaking the silence about the subject of the transatlantic slave trade and slavery and to face the issue and it consequences objectively while contributing to a culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence among all people. The main objective of the meeting, held in the Conference Hall of the National Dominican Commission for UNESCO, was to encourage discussion about a common work plan to involve the three Member Nations of the Latin Caribbean Sub-Region for the upcoming two years, 2008-2009 under the title the New Strategy for the “Slave Route Project.” See the entire article here (PDF) To download the Trade Route Project brochure in Spanish, click here to enter: http://unesdoc.unesco.org/images/0014/001465/146546s.pdf
