DGCINE expands its Education and Training programs One of the main goals of the General Directorate of Cinema is to offer education and training programs to members of the local industry. That is why it offers courses, workshops and seminars, among others, throughout the year, trying to cover all the areas that make up the industry. It is essential to create a new generation of professionals in this field, and DGCINE must fulfill its commitment to provide training through certified professionals. After joining the institution in January of this year, the Director General of Cinema, Yvette Marichal, announced her interest in strengthening the department of “Training and Education”, to address the challenges generated by the film production in the country. It is essential to create a new generation of professionals in this field, and DGCINE must fulfill its commitment to provide training through certified professionals. Thanks to the new guidelines of the training department, along with the tools created for their dissemination and the teamwork developed with schools that have high academic standards in various parts of the world, this department is providing free of charge to all Dominicans and to a wider audience, workshops, courses, presentations and discussions by trained teachers in various regions of the country. Currently, the General Directorate of Cinema (DGCINE) has several ongoing workshops; one of these is focused on awakening the artistic talent in children 10 to 13 years old, through a 2-week course titled “Audiovisual Expression for Girls and Boys”, which is being taught by teacher and filmmaker Alejandro Malowicki. This workshop aims to make these children live the experiences that come during the pre-production and shooting of a video production, while they attend a basic course on film appreciation. Moreover, and following a one-week workshop for high school students that took place last May in the area of ??digital film editing, the need was apparent and the young filmmakers demanded the creation of a longer course for film editors and aspiring editors. The course on editing that is currently being taught by Professor Jorge Mochón, titled “Creative Workflow in Cloud”, provides all the tools to draw greater benefits from the digital editing programs and gives them a foundation in terms of the difference between editing for tv and feature films. The city of Santiago, the cradle of young filmmakers, is hosting since last June 30th a workshop on documentary filmmaking by renowned filmmaker Ciro Cappellari. This workshop aims to convey basic knowledge on specific work methods for research, development and production of documentary films and to motivate young people to think, create, write and film a documentary project, thereby reflecting on their life and the society that surrounds them in general. The title of this workshop is “Kinematics of reality.” Future Plans For the next few months DGCINE plans to continue reaching other parts of the country as well as creating workshops that have been requested by various filmmakers and students.
