Press Release – Book “Querida Martha” is Published

During a joyful event in which Psychotherapist and Teacher Martha Beato celebrated the birth of her work among longtime friends. Her book “Querida Martha (Dear Martha),” which is a compilation of 150 different letters that readers from the Listín Diario newspaper in the Dominican Republic and the El Universo newspaper of Ecuador wrote to her for over a decade, was released.

“Querida Martha” emerged from an idea from Beato’s friend Dennis Mota, and although Beato enthusiastically embraced the suggestion, she had to postpone the project until recently due to personal reasons.

This work, whose introduction was written by Magaly Caram and Journalist Pablo McKinney, reflects the various daily problems and situations that we all face at work, at home, in romantic relationships, and with emotional difficulties, and which were answered via the collection of letters that Martha Beato received from readers between the years 1998 and 2003.

At the main table of the event, which took place in the Juan Bosch auditorium of the National Library, Beato was accompanied by great friends and people who collaborated with her during her 35 year career: Magaly Caram, Ana Tholenaar, Dennis Mota, Freddy Reyes, Ricardo Valdez and Diomedes Núñez.

Beato said that, similar to a decade ago, people are still anxious of being heard, of having a guiding voice. Therefore, “this book is a guide for them to find their answer internally, because you have to be able to take the reins of your own life, and nobody can create a change in someone if they do not want it.  The key to ‘Querida Martha’ can be summarized in these three assertions.”

In this way, the book becomes a guidebook for people who cannot or who are afraid of seeing a psychologist. Readers can easily relate to the different situations that are presented in the book, and the recommendations that are given can easily serve not only the person who initially wrote the letter, but also anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation. The book aids in finding realistic solutions and the pursuit of wellbeing.
