ITSC receives 710 new students The Community Technical Institute for Higher Education (ITSC for its acronym in Spanish) welcomed 710 new incoming high-school graduates this past Friday. They will commence their studies in 27 different technical degrees that this educational institution offers. The ceremony welcoming these new students was headed by the Dean of the institution, Dr. Víctor Hugo de Láncer, as well as Professor Marcia Corporán, Academic Associate Dean; Julio Peña, Administrative Associate Dean; and, Cristóbal Polanco, Associate Dean of Extension and Community Association. The ceremony took place in the auditorium of the educational institution, amid an enthusiastic atmosphere filled with the hopes of the students and their desire to excel by starting a career that will allow them to join the country’s productive sector via their technical education. The Directorate of Student Services and the Department of Academic Orientation welcomed these young students who selected higher education as the most viable path for a better personal and professional development. These units provided them guidance about their roles as students and informed them of the professional profile that the ITSC hopes to prepare. The Academy handed out pertinent information regarding the various workshops that will be available throughout the entire quarter (which takes place from September to December, 2014), and the academic regulations that the students must commit to follow. Among the areas in which the new students will specialize at the ITSC are: Tourism, Health, Arts, Construction, Electromechanical studies, Information Technology, and Industry. There are 27 different technical degrees available at the Academy. After the event the students had the opportunity to meet with the coordinators of the various degrees, as well as to get familiarized with the facilities, laboratories, and the library, which will serve them during this new stage of their lives. The Dean addressed all those present and congratulated the staff of the institution for all the hard work that they have done for the institution and its students. Particularly, the Dean thanked President Danilo Medina for his continuous support to the ITSC, the flagship of the development in the Province, in hopes that this experience is taken as an example by other communities across the country. Currently, enrolment at the ITSC exceeds five thousand students, which have come from various parts of the Province of Santo Domingo and even from other places that are farther away, such as Bayaguana, Monte Plata, Yamasá, La Caleta, Boca Chica, and San Pedro de Macorís.
