Nominees to Dominican National Gastronomy Awards are Announced The Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic Inc. and Creato, an agency specializing in gastronomy marketing, announced the nominees of the first edition of the Dominican National Gastronomy Awards to be held this Friday, September 26th, during the opening ceremony of Taste Santo Domingo 2014. The Awards aim to contribute to the development of the gastronomy industry, through the annual presentation of awards to those who have distinguished themselves for raising quality standards or for their contributions in a variety of fields. This first edition considers four categories: Excellence, initiative, trajectory, and communication. “These awards are intended to elevate individuals, companies and institutions that have been working quietly for years in an effort to raise our quality standards in the gastronomy and hotel industry. We congratulate all the nominees, they are already winners”, said Arturo Villanueva, Vice President of ASONAHORES. The 2014 nominees for Best Dominican Cuisine Restaurant are: El Conuco, Adrian’s Tropical, Travesías, El Meson de Bari, and the Típico Bonao restaurant. In the Best International Food Restaurant category: Pate Palo, Osteria da Ciro, Mitre, Don Pepe and La Cassina. In the Best Hotel Gastronomy Offer category: Hilton Santo Domingo, Holiday Inn, El Embajador, Sublime Samaná, Sheraton, and Eden Roc. In the Best Resort Gastronomy Offer category: Hard Rock Hotel Punta Cana, Paradisus Palma Real, Paradisus Punta Cana, Barceló Premium Punta Cana, and Barceló Palace Deluxe Punta Cana. In the Best Fast Food or Casual Food Restaurant category: Wendy’s, Asia Mia, Chef Pepper, Barra Payán, Market, McDonald’s, Panepazzo, and Yao. In the Best Pastry category: De la Casa Pastelería, Bondelic, Fresco del Horno, La Cuchara de Madera, Pastelería del Jardín, and La Dolcerie. In the Best Bar category: Mix Bar, Chilli’s, Sud Super Club, Arturo Fuentes Cigar Club, and Lulú Tasting Bar. In the Best Catering Service category: Ana Lebrón Línea Gourmet, El Embajador Gourmet, Deco Buffet, and VIP Catering. In the Best Specialty Store category: La Viña de El Catador, La Enoteca, Carne & Co., Wine & Spirits Boutique, and Sonoma. In the Best Chef of the Year (Head Chef) category: Alberto Martín, Cristian Báez, Inés Páez (Chef Tita), Ciro Casola, Emil Vega, Rafael Planeles, Saverio Stassi, and Sención López. In the Dominican Gastronomy Trajectory category: Jacqueline Henríquez, Alberto Martín, Eugenia Rojo, Saverio Stassi, Ciro Casola, and Leandro Díaz. In the Gastronomy Communication category (TV Shows: “Clases de Cocina” (“Cooking Classes”) with Jacqueline Henríquez; Leandro Díaz for “Aquí tu cocinas” (“Here you cook”); and, Inés Páez (Chef Tita) for “Cocina Gourmet” (“Gourmet Kitchen”). (Social Networks): Bocao RD and Ruta Gourmet IGRD. (Magazines): Vainilla y Azafrán (Vanilla and Saffron) and Hostelería News. In the Gastronomy Initiative category: CCN Group for the “Orgullo de mi Tierra” (“Pride of my Homeland”) campaign; the Rica Group for the “Herencia Gastronómica” (“Gastronomic Heritage”) campaign; Rosa María Gómez for her book “La Nueva Cocina Dominicana de La Chefa” (“The Chef’s New Dominican Cuisine”), and Nestlé Dominicana for the “Copa Culinaria Nestlé Professional” (“Professional Nestlé Culinary Cup”). To select the awardees, a Committee of Specialists, comprised of professionals and personalities from the gastronomy and hotel industry, will consider the most votes received in each category. During the meeting, the participants enjoyed a cocktail at the Eden Roc Hotel and a selection of wines from El Catador.
