Santo Domingo, October 23, 2014

The Ambassador of France in the Dominican Republic, Blandine Kreiss; the President of the French-Dominican Chamber of Commerce, Joan Giacinti; and, Karine Jacob, President of the Organizing Committee, chaired the opening cocktail of the “Week of France 2014”, which is taking place in the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Library, from October 23rd to the 25th.

This event, in its second edition, showcases what France has to offer to the Dominican Republic in terms of trade, development of new businesses in the areas of energy, agribusiness and export processing zones, as well as in the fields of culture, education and gastronomy.

The Week of France 2014 is based on three pillars: business forum with keynote lectures and workshops, the trade exhibition with more than 50 companies offering their products and services, and the cultural activities program that integrates art through exhibitions of posters, photographs and paintings, film screenings, a gastronomic tour, music and dance.

The three activities will take place in parallel and the public has the opportunity to attend the trade exhibition and the cultural activities free of charge.

The cultural program features the exhibition “La historia de Francia contada por la publicidad”, organized by the Alliance Française and loaned by the city of Paris, which shows the evolution of French society through posters and advertising billboards; and “Breve ontología del resto” by filmmaker, photographer and writer Jacques Renoir.

Also, “La extraña” a Dominican film based on a French film, and “Renoir”, will be screened. The exhibitions and films are open to the public.

All day on Saturday, October 25th, there will be a program of activities starting at 9:30 am with the opening of a products and crafts market in the gardens of the National Library, which will simulate a typical French market. Within this activity there will be an art market where the works of eight French artists residing in the Dominican Republic will be exhibited.

On the same day, there will be presentations at the French School in Santo Domingo, Alliance Française, Campus France, Institute of the Americas – IDA (FUNGLODE), the “Pedro Henriquez Ureña” National Library and France’s National Library, and the Montpelier Business School.
