The Ministry of Culture will mark the 40th anniversary of the celebration in the Dominican Republic of the music festival “7 Días con el Pueblo” (7 Days with the People) with a program of activities that will take place in various parts of the capital and in the provinces between November 25th and December 5th, 2014.


The aforementioned artistic, political and cultural event was organized in 1974 by the general workers union (Central General de Trabajadores), with the purpose of expressing the rejection of the participants to the repression imposed on the Dominican people by the regime in power at that time.


On this opportunity, the Minister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez, wants to honor those who organized and performed at such an important artistic event. For this reason, he has ordered the preparation of a program of activities and the invitation of some of the international artists who came to participate in it.


As part of the activities that have been announced there will be a free concert on November 29th at 8:00 p.m., in the Ozama Fort, where singers and song writers of the current generation will participate.


From November 25th to December 1st the public will be able to participate in exhibitions, books releases, discussions, awards ceremonies and the presentation of the commemorative album to 7 Días con el Pueblo.


The concert will feature singers and song writers Covi Quintana, Cristal Marie, Marel Alemany, Bobby Delgado, Henya Tejeda, Poeta Callejero, Víctor del Villar, Giorgio Siladi, Janio Lora, Carolina Solís, Lenny Abreu, Nathalie Hazim, Pamel Mancebo, and the Aura group.


The program will be coordinated and produced by actress Aidita Selman and the musical Director will be Juan Francisco Ordoñez.


A ticket is required to enter the concert venue. It may be picked up by those interested at Uepa Tickets.


It has been announced that during the celebration, the House of Representatives and the City Council of the National District will present awards to the participating artists and organizers of the 7 Días con el Pueblo New Music International Get-Together.


The international artists that will be honored are: Bernardo Palombo and Mercedes Sosa (Posthumous, Argentina), Silvio Rodríguez and Noel Nicola (Cuba), Pi de la Serra, Víctor Manuel and Ana Belén (Spain), Danny Rivera, Lucecita Benítez, Roxana and Silverio and Antonio Caban Vale (El Topo), Andrés Jiménez. Estrella Artau (Posthumous, Puerto Rico). From Mexico, Guadalupe Trigo (Posthumous). From Uruguay: Roberto Darvin. And from Venezuela: Los Guaraguaos and Gloria Martín.


Meanwhile, from the Dominican Republic the following persons will be recognized: Enrique De León, Francisco Antonio Santos, Nelsida Marmolejos, Ramón Paulino and Julio de Peña Valdez (Posthumous), from the general workers union.


From the Nueva Forma Group the honorees are: Víctor Víctor, Claudio Cohen, Luis Tomás Oviedo, Carlos Francisco Elías, Otto Fernández, Miguel Cohén, José Thomás, Tommy García, Orlando Herrera, Soledad Álvarez, Ismael Guantes, Frank Canelo, René Merette, Milagros Ortiz Bosch and Sonia Silvestre (Posthumous).


The members of Expresión Joven who will be recognized are: Ramón Leonardo, Rafael (Cholo) Brenes, Manuel de Jesús, Puro Eduardo López, Rafael Castro and Chico González (Posthumous). Likewise, the members of the Convite group, Rondalla of the UASD, Casa de Teatro, Teatro Estudiantil and Pueblo Nuevo Alto will also receive recognitions.


During the celebration of the 40th anniversary of 7 Días con el Pueblo, tribute will be paid to: Johnny Ventura, Cuco Valoy, Rafael Solano, Elsa Expósito, Wilfredo Alemany, René Alfonso, José Guillermo Sued, Huchi Lora, Juan Bolívar Díaz and, posthumously, to Orlando Martínez.


In addition to bringing together leading national and international artists, 7 Días con el Pueblo provided a platform for the Dominican people to protest against the repression of the Balaguer regime.
