Discover Puerto Plata MarketPlace 2014 opens successfully at Iberostar Costa Dorada

The Third Annual Tourism Fair in Puerto Plata, known as “Discover Puerto Plata MarketPlace” opened successfully last night. The event is taking place from October 1st to the 3rd at the facilities of Iberostar Costa Dorada. It is being sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and the National Competitiveness Council.

Maximo Iglesias, President of the Tourism Cluster of Puerto Plata, explained that the purpose of the event is to consolidate Puerto Plata as one of the leading tourist destinations in the Caribbean and to rouse the interest of international tour operators.

The event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Tourism, civil authorities, tour operators, personalities related to the hotel and tourism sectors, and members of the press.

The President of the Tourism Cluster of Puerto Plata highlighted the record participation of international operators at the Discover Puerto Plata MarketPlace 2014.

Iglesias Miniño said that Puerto Plata’s hotels range from one to five stars, but added that the Destination itself “is five stars” due to the diversity of attractions it offers to tourists.

“Three years ago we cemented our commitment to working for Puerto Plata to develop a sustainable and competitive tourism industry, and within this objective we devised the Discover Puerto Plata MarketPlace fair”, said Iglesias Miniño.

Iglesias noted that “this is an international event that fosters tourism”, and it also seeks to capture the attention of the national and international tourism sector.

He added that Discover Puerto Plata MarketPlace has captured the interest of the local and international press, to the extent that a journalist came from Australia to cover this edition of the fair.

The event brings together over 150 international tour operators from 16 countries, according to the President of the Cluster.

Iglesias Miniño thanked the Ministry of Tourism, the Council of Competitiveness, and the companies that are sponsoring the Third Annual Tourism Fair of Puerto Plata for their support.

The event is being co-sponsored by Banco Popular Dominicano, JetBlue, Brugal, Aerodom, the Center for Information and Communication (CICOM), Iberostar, Banco de Reservas, Lifestyle Holidays, Casy Events Solution, Barceló Hotels & Resorts, Hodelpa, Blue JackTar, Amhsa Marina, BlueBay, Be Live Hotels and Puerto Plata Village.
