The winners of the First “Exprésate” Popular Photo Competition are announced The office of the Dominican Commissioner of Culture in the United States, a unit of the Ministry of Culture of the Dominican Republic, announced the winners of the First “Exprésate” (Express Yourself) Popular Photo Competition. The Dominican Commissioner of Culture in the United States, Mr. Carlos Sánchez, informed that the winners of the first edition of the competition, whose theme was “My Dominican Culture”, were: Jhoanna Pena Almonte, First Place; Jimmy Valdez, Second Place, and Álvaro Ceballos, Third Place. The Audience Award was presented to the entry with the highest number of Likes on the Facebook page of the Dominican Commissioner of Culture. The winning photo was submitted by Yolanda Hernández. The awards consisted of: 1st Place: A Digital SLR Camera; 2nd Place: A Laptop Computer; 3rd Place: An Electronic Tablet; and the Audience Award: A plaque and certificate of recognition. The awards ceremony will be held on January 30th, 2015, in the Andrés Francisco Requena Events Hall of the Dominican Commissioner of Culture, located at 541 West 145 Street, 2nd. floor, near the corner of Broadway, in Manhattan. The competition entailed submitting photographic images that reflect the cultural values and the everyday life of Dominicans living abroad. Dominicans (or of Dominican descent), of any age, who have been residing abroad (in the United States and Puerto Rico) for three or more years, were eligible to participate in the competition. |
