Maridalia Hernández: “The best companions in life are, without a doubt, books”
Santo Domingo, February 26th, 2015

Singer Maridalia Hernández, who has had a great musical career since her participation in the Viña del Mar Festival, described reading as the best companion and the essential tool for acquiring knowledge in all aspects of life.

By participating in the En Voz Alta cultural get-together organized by the Children and Youth Library of the Dominican Republic (BIJRD), the artist highlighted the contributions that reading and her studies have made to her life.

The artist said that one of her fascinations in life is to read biographies and for that reason she turns to the books by biographer and social activist Stefan Zweig, who in her opinion enters the soul of the people in each of his writings; she also loves Mario Benedetti’s poems.

She also admitted to the attendees of Mi Espacio (My Space) youth hall that the focus of her inspiration is her home, a place where she finds peace and tranquility in her small library, which is filled with works about psychology.

Along the same lines, she revealed that, had she not been a singer she would have been a Psychologist due to her great attraction for understanding everything about human behavior and emotions.

Not without previously conveying how privileged she feels for having been born into a family of artists, from where her passion for music arose, and which led her to start her studies at an early age at the José Ovidio García musical lyceum in Santiago de los Caballeros, and then at the Dominican Academy of Music, where he earned the degree of Teacher of Music.

The co-founder and main vocalist of the popular group Juan Luis Guerra 440 urged young people to prepare, study, care for their bodies, appreciate themselves and take advantage of libraries such as the BIJRD that make available to the Dominican family a world of knowledge that should serve them in the future.

“Remember young people than whatever has true value in life is priceless,” said Hernández.

The singer urged them to never stop pursuing their desires and dreams, and that the rocks they find along the way “are obstacles that are required for training, do not give up your illusions, dreams and desires, success is only achieved if you work.”

During the meeting the singer offered several of her emblematic songs, including “Quien no sabe de amor no sabe nada”, “Te ofrezco”, “El conuco”, “La vida es bonita” by Brazilian composer Gonzaguinha, among others, which the attendees sang along and gave a round of applause.

Maridalia concluded the activity happy and satisfied by the love and respect shown by the group of young people and the library users who were present during the discussion group.

She expressed gratitude for the invitation and appreciated the initiative of the Vice President of the Republic, Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, and the Director of the BIJRD, Dulce Elvira de los Santos, for facilitating spaces such as this one that seek to promote the habit of reading in children and youth, while training their parents.
