Santo Domingo, March 11th, 2015

The diplomatic delegations of the francophone countries in the Dominican Republic, the General Directorate of Film and its unit, the Dominican Film Library, present the “Francophone Worlds” film series.

As part of the activities of the Week of the Francophonie, an event that is organized to promote not only the French language but also a series of values such as dialogue, tolerance and solidarity, “Francophone Worlds” will be presented at the Dominican Film Library. This new series includes films from various regions from all over the world which are united by language. Canada, France, Morocco and Switzerland are brought together to fill the screen with pure Francophone culture. Between Thursday, March 12 and Wednesday, March 18, the public can enjoy an excellent selection of contemporary cinema.

The film that was nominated for the Golden Shell at the San Sebastian Festival in 2005, “Juanita of Tangier”, will open the series on Thursday, March 12, at 7:00 PM. The film “White Material”, by renowned French director Claire Denis, is also part of the program. This film, starring Isabelle Huppert, received the award of the board of US critics as one of the five best non-English speaking language films of 2010.

During the week of the “Francophone Worlds” presentations will be held at 7:30 pm, while on Saturday and Sunday there will be two presentations at 5:30 PM and at 7:30 PM.
