Ministry of Culture Announces 15th National Amateur Theater Festival Emilio Aparicio

This Tuesday, April 7, theater groups from the capital and the rest of the country will participate in the “15th National Amateur Theater Festival Emilio Aparicio 2015”. The Ministry of Culture (MINC) has organized this event as part of the celebrations of the year of the Dominican theater.

The ceremony will take place in the Monina Solá auditorium of the Narciso González Cultural Center at 7:00 pm. “La Edad de las Ciruelas,” a play written by Latin-American maestro Arístides Vargas will be staged at the event by the students of the Escuela Nacional de Arte Dramático.

The 15th Festival, which will close on April 27, includes a selection of plays that encompass amusement and entertainment themes, and are, therefore, appropriate for children, youth, and adult audiences.

Basilio Nova, Director and Producer of the aforementioned event, highlighted the support received from the Minister of Culture, singer and the songwriter José Antonio Rodríguez, for the planning of the event.

Nova also emphasized that the event, organized by the MINC, is the only appropriate space that theater groups, professionals, students and theater enthusiasts from around the country have to perform and promote their talent and creativity on the stage.

Performances are programed from Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. The general admission for each performance is RD$50 per person.

Performances are scheduled to take place in the Enriquillo Sánchez Auditorium (at the Ministry of Culture headquarters); the Narciso González Cultural Center, the Haffé Serulle Experimental Theater, the Perelló Cultural Center, Baní; the Don Bosco Theater, Moca, Espaillat Province; Liceo Gregorio Luperón, Escuela Juan Ravelo, Puerto Plata; and, the San Francisco de Macorís Experimental Theater.

Among the participating theater groups that are scheduled to perform, are: Teatro Orquestal Dominicano, the Escuela Nacional de Arte Dramático, Teatro Sol, from Higüey; Teatro Talón de Acero Theatrical Group, San Juan de la Maguana; Teatro Escuela Iván García, Cristo Vive en mí Theatrical Group, and the Casita de Sueño Theatrical Group.

Other performers that are scheduled to participate as part of the program include: Los Bendecidos Theatrical Group, Chiqui Dulty-TV, Improvisus Academy, Escuela de Teatro Otoño, Teatro Numen and Teatro Tedanz.
