Campaign to Collect Medicine, Food and Other Items For the Victims of Tropical Storm Olga The non-governmental BRA Dominicana is becoming involved in the effort to control infectious diseases in communities where families were affected by Tropical Storm Olga in the provinces of Duarte (Lower Yuna), La Vega, Sánchez Ramírez, La Barquita and Monte Plata. The NGO is calling upon citizens to donate medicine, plastic containers to store drinking water, food, mattresses, sheets, bleach, mosquito nets, household items, useful school supplies and clothing for children. According to a press release sent by the NGO, “the intervention of BRA Dominicana will permit these families to recuperate from the traumatic situation caused by the floods and guarantee them better health.” These activities will be undertaken by medical and technical personnel of BRA Dominicana. Latest Data The Emergency Operations Committee reported that the number of people who died as a result of the storm has risen to 24; 189 communities are still without communications; 49,170 people remain homeless and displaced and 9,834 homes have been damaged.
