Biblio-Camp 2015 Gets Underway with Fun Activities in Store

With great enthusiasm and joy, this summer’s annual Biblio Camp 2015 is getting underway at the Children’s Library of the Dominican Republic (BIJRD in Spanish). Stories and activities about caring for the environment, children’s stories, handicrafts, surprise visits and field trips all are part the this year’s planned activities.


Pamela Alfau, events planner at the Children’s Library, welcomed this year’s participants. She said the camp is part of an idea to inculcate children with values promoted from the Vice Presidency of the Republic to the entire Dominican family Biblio-Summer Camp has two sessions in July, with children and adolescents from five to thirteen years of age, children of Library employees and regular visitors to the library as well as residents of Villa Juana, Don Bosco, Ciudad Nueva, San Carlos and Gazcue.


This is the sixth year camp is being held at the cultural center since it reopened in 2009 when Vice President of the Republic, Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, created it with the goal of developing reading habits in children, while facilitating knowledge and literacy in the use and advantages of information.


Activities
This summer’s program includes Eco-visits being offered with the support from the Ministry of Environment, Botanical Gardens and National Zoo. A tour of the Trampoline Museum and National Museum of Natural History are also on the schedule.


There will be creative recycling workshops as well as films, performances, lectures, dramatic readings, field trips, crafts, meetings with writers, a visit to the Maggi de Nestlé School, and a meeting with Rufo, the mascot of the Leones del Escogido baseball team, to name a few of the many activities. To guarantee the safety of the campers, the BIJRD has made available its staff, comprised of two coordinators and twenty monitors. There will also be a team of nurses on hand and security officers from the Metropolitan Transport Authority.
