A Collective Impulse: Spanish Film for Modern Times Between July 7 and 24, 2015, nine new films will be shown at the Spanish Cultural Center under the name, A Collective Impulse, a film cycle commissioned by movie critic Carlos Losilla, with collaboration of the SGAE Foundation that was part of the fourth edition of the D’A, D’autor of Barcelona International Film Festival. This section brings together a new generation of directors and writers who are influencing the future of Spanish film with their fresh impetus. The exhibition is a glance at the latest, young and effervescent productions that are awakening interest in new forms of production and distribution, but mainly because they are employing new ways of telling stories, which is effective in nonfiction, experimental, post-humor or underground filmmaking. The selection of feature films shows how Spanish films are moving in a positive direction. Young, energetic, ambitious and revolutionary films make up this movement that is recovering a political feeling in film. A collective impulse is where it garners its strength. This proposal is a contribution to the knowledge of what used to be called “the other cinema,” which is becoming film that matters. Program: Films will start at 7 pm in the Polivalente Hall of the Spanish Cultural Center in Colonial City, Santo Domingo. This activity is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. Photos: |
