Puerto Plata and Santo Domingo are being Promoted in Mexico as MICE, Gastronomical and Cultural Tourist Destinations The Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, through its Tourism Promotion Office (OPT in Spanish) in Mexico along with the Detouroper Wholesale Tour Operator, conducted MICE seminars and a gastronomic and cultural event promoting Puerto Plata and Santo Domingo as destinations for five of the most important cities in Mexico. This gathering of Mexican and Dominican tourism professionals was based on developing a series of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) seminars and a cultural-gastronomic event that consisted of a Brugal Rum tasting, which originated in Puerto Plata with Jassil Villanueva, fifth generation member and rum master of the Brugal family. Guests became familiar with and enjoyed the exquisite offerings of this Brugal house, which included the following rum: Titanium, Añejo, Extra Viejo and 1888. The presentations began in Mexico City, continuing in Puebla, Monterrey, Guadalajara and Cancun, with the participation of over 500 travel agents. The Dominican delegation, invited by Detouroper’s Javier Gutiérrez, Director of Marketing, included: Jakaira Cid, Executive Director of the Puerto Plata Tourism Cluster; Jassil Villanueva, rum master for Brugal & Cia; Carlos Frias, Accord Hotels; Briseida Olivero of the Santo Domingo Tourism Cluster; Sócrates McKinney, Artistic Director Dominicana Moda; Audry González, from the sales department of the Be Live Collection Hotel Marien and Arline Johanna María, representative of OTIUM Tour Operator along with Verónica Castillo of Assist Card and Copa Airlines Mexico. Also, under the theme “Strengths and Corsairs” they also promoted historical attractions, Dominican capital of Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata that were offered to the Mexican market, noting that the first European settlement in the New World was established in this northern Dominican province. Jakaira Cid, on behalf of the other members of the delegation, thanked Montserrat Despradel for the initiatives being undertaken by the OPT, which publicizes Dominican tourism destinations to the Mexican market. They presented these sites as the perfect vacation spots in the Caribbean.
