ITSC and MITUR Host the First “Mi Tierra por Dentro” Educational Fair

With the objective of fostering and promoting the assets of the Dominican Republic as a tourist destination through educational learning, the Ministry of Tourism and the Instituto Técnico Superior Comunitario organized the First “Mi Tierra por dentro” Educational Tourism Fair. The event was aimed at creating a space for research, learning and interaction among the students that are pursuing the various careers that make up the curricular program offered by the institution of higher technical education.

The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Ligia Amada Melo who cut the ribbon and formally opened the event. She was accompanied by the ITSC Rector, Doctor Víctor Hugo Láncer, the Academic Vice Rector, Professor María Corporan, the Vice Rector for Community Engagement, Mr. Cristóbal Polanco, and the faculty of the Department of Tourism, led by the School Coordinator, Gloria Alina Valdés.

For the Ministry of Tourism, the Director of National Tourism, Milka Hernández, was in charge of organizing the event. Together with the MITUR team that oversees fairs, she had the responsibility of judging the stands that were created by the students and the main tourist destinations of our country: Costa Caribe-Juan Dolio, Puerto Plata, Jarabacoa-Constanza, Costa Ámbar-Puerto Plata, Macao-Punta Cana. La Altagracia Province, Barahona, Montecristi, Samaná-Las Terrenas, Peravia-Palenque, Azua, and Nagua Cabrera.

The event was enhanced with lectures by experts from the priority areas of the tourism sector and representatives of various clusters, who covered topics such as: Dominican Republic: Tourist Country, Orgullo de mi tierra, Puerto Plata Destination, Puerto Plata Community Tourism Development, Dominican Republic Protected Areas, and Dominican Cuisine.

Visitors to this First “Mi Tierra por dentro” Tourism Fair tasted Dominican traditional dishes that were prepared by ITSC students, under the supervision of Chefs Omar Brito, Alejandro Abreu, Hubert Reyes and Wandy Robles.
