The Ministry of Culture Will Host a Seminar on Economy and Culture
Santo Domingo, August 24 2015


With the objective of providing basic information on the development that the economy of culture in the region of Latin America has experienced, the Ministry of Culture, together with the Cultural Center of Spain and the Organization of Ibero-American States, will host the seminar “Economy and culture, culture in the emerging economies of Ibero-America”.



The seminar is aimed at officials who deal with public policy, cultural managers, economists, intergovernmental organizations, cultural entrepreneurs, students and teachers in related areas.


The seminar will take place on September 1 to 3, 2015, at the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Library, located in the Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte. Presentations will be made by national and international cultural and economic experts, including: Fernando Vicario, of Spain; Ernesto Espínola, of Chile; Gonzalo Castellanos and Liliana Ortiz, of Colombia; Carlos Guzmán Cárdenas, of Venezuela; and Ernesto Piedras and Guillermo Pous Fernández, of Mexico.


From the Dominican Republic, the host country, the following experts will participate with presentations: Roberto Despradel, Alan Fernández, Roberto Blondet, Ivette Marichal, Félix Manuel Lora, Antonio Gennari, Che Castellanos, Laura Castellanos, Zumaya Cordero and Estefany Payero.


Among the topics to be discussed are the following: “The Orange Economy: an infinite opportunity,” “Cultural Management of the Cultural and Creative Industries Sector,” “Copyright and the modern economies,” “Cinema in the modern economies,” “Cinema in the Dominican Republic: current situation and prospects,” and “Cultural consumption and participation: a view from Ibero-America.”


Other topics to be discussed are: “Cultural consumption surveys in Ibero-America,” “Culture satellite accounts. New manual of the Andrés Bello Agreement,” and “Copyright as raw material in the Cultural Industries.”


As part of the seminar there will be a presentation on the results of the National Survey of Cultural Consumption of the Dominican Republic, by Roberto Blondet. The institutions that have partnered for this event are: the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development, the World Intellectual Property Organization, the National Copyright Office, the General Directorate of Cinema, the Eduardo León Jimenes Cultural Center, and the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic.
