Culture Announces the “Long Night of the Museums, Fall 2015 Edition” The Ministry of Culture is back with the magic of the “Long Night of the Museums, Fall 2015 Edition,” on Saturday, September 26. The museums of the Colonial City of Santo Domingo will open their doors to the public, free of charge, from 9 a.m. to 12:00 midnight, offering guided tours, recreational characters, related and simultaneous cultural and artistic activities. Dominicans and foreigners will have the opportunity to make a selection according to their own taste. The museums that will participate are: Casa de Tostado, Fortaleza de Santo Domingo (Ozama), Museo Trampolín, Casas Reales, Alcázar de Colón, the Banreservas Cultural Center, Casa de Teatro, the Telecommunications Cultural Center, the Children and Youth Library of the Dominican Republic, Ayuntamiento del Distrito-Palacio Consistorial and Cinema 4D. In addition, other activities and exhibitions will take place at the Capilla de los Remedios, Plaza María de Toledo, Plaza Reloj de Sol and Plaza España. A particular feature of this edition is that, as part of the celebration of the Week of Spain, together with its Embassy, the Museo de las Casas Reales will showcase an exhibition of famous Catalan artist Joan Miró, from September 17 to the 28. On September 26, as part of the celebration of the Long Night of the Museums, the Corte Virginal parade will take place at Calle de las Damas, from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. It is a beautiful event that, through its characters, tells the story of the meeting of the Spanish and Hispaniola cultures. Also, the “Long Night of the Museums” will feature an interesting agenda of artistic activities, including music, theater, dance, exhibition and sale of handcrafts, living statues, children’s activities, and a spectacular closing ceremony that will take place at Plaza España with one of the most powerful and harmonic voices of recent times, that of Diomary La Mala. On this occasion, we have a new member participating in this event, through the Vice Presidency of the Republic, the Children and Youth Library of the Dominican Republic, which will offer programming for the entire family. The formal opening will be held at 6:30 pm at the Museo de la Casa Reales. The Minister of Culture, singer and songwriter José Antonio Rodríguez, as well as other officials of that government agency, authorities of the Embassy of Spain and the Cultural Center of Spain, will participate. Since 2013, by order of the Minister of Culture, José Antonio Rodríguez, four long nights of the museums are organized every year, an initiative that has facilitated the access of hundreds of families to enjoy their monument heritage and additional artistic line up. The agenda of the Long Night of the Museums will be available on Friday, September 18, at the official website of the Ministry of Culture, and the page of the Directorate General of the Museums at social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.
