The Silve Quisqueya Network Organized a National Forum on Volunteering and the SDGs Red Silve Quisqueya (the Silve Quisqueya Network) organized a National Forum on Volunteering and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The forum was aimed at fostering a dialogue between the public sector, the private sector and civil society on the contribution of volunteering to the Sustainable Development Goals. The event had the support of the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC for its acronym in Spanish), and it took place in coordination with the Centro Nacional de Fomento y Promoción de las Asociaciones sin Fines de Lucro (National Center for the Development and Promotion of Non-Profit Associations). It was divided into three panels that addressed the following topics: “The Role of Volunteers in the Sustainable Development Goals”; “Volunteering and the Sustainable Development Goals: Report on the State of Volunteerism Worldwide in 2015” and “How to Strengthen the Contributions of Volunteers in the 2030 Agenda”. Among the panelists were: Addys Then Marte, Executive Director of the Alianza NGO; Ruth Fernández, Unit for Sustainable Human Development at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP); Luis Abreu, Coordinator of Social Responsibility at the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC); and Hernán Paredes, Executive Director at the MEPyD’s National Center for the Development and Promotion of Non-Profit Associations. In addition, Víctor Velasco, Volunteers Program officer at the United Nations; Indhira Gil, a volunteer with the Action 2015 campaign; Joan Mateo, Executive Director of Service for Peace; and, Ezequiel Volquez, Director of Planning and Monitoring of the Progressing with Solidarity Program, among others.
