The Santiago Free Zone Corporation is Selected as the Best Industrial Park in Latin America The Santiago Free Zone Corporation is Selected as the Best Industrial Park in Latin America The objective of this project is to promote and enhance the Serrano Corridor in order to turn Constanza into a world-class destination for mountain and adventure ecotourism, including the bicycle trails in this municipality. The good news was announced by the Minister of Industry and Trade, José del Castillo Saviñón, at a meeting of the National Council of Free Zones, in which the following officials were present: the President of ADOZONA, José Tomás Contreras; the Executive Director of the National Council of Free Zones, Luisa Fernández; the President of the Santiago Free Zone Corporation, Miguel Lama Rodríguez; the President of the La Romana Free Zone Operator, Luis Emilio Rodríguez; and several other officials and businessmen who are part of the board of directors of the governing agency, according to a press release. On behalf of the Dominican Government, Castillo congratulated the Santiago Free Zone Corporation for having won three major awards in the categories “Best Free Zone in Latin America and the Caribbean”, “Best Caribbean Free Zone” and “Free Zone Success Story for the Development of Infrastructure” at the Global Free Zones Competition 2015, in which 76 industrial parks from around the world took part. The official also informed that in its 2015 report, the FDI Intelligence recognized the La Romana Free Zone Operator for the quality of the companies operating in the industrial park. Del Castillo emphasized that the La Romana Free Zone was the first industrial park to be established in the country in 1969, and that it houses globally renowned companies, as is the case of Tabacalera de García, the largest producer of world premium cigars. The President of the Santiago Free Zone Corporation, Miguel Lama Rodríguez, welcomed the recognition and highlighted the support received from the current administration, which has allowed the free zones to grow steadily in recent years. “We feel highly honored because these awards place the Dominican Republic among the countries with the best industrial parks in the world. The President of ADOZONA, José Tomás Contreras, also congratulated the Santiago Free Zone Corporation and the La Romana Free Zone, and took the opportunity to highlight the progress made by the industry in 2015. He stated that the success of the free zones in the country has been the result of an effective public-private partnership, which has created the conditions for the expansion of the industry. He noted that, as a result of these examples of success, the year 2015 will conclude with the highest export figures and number of free zone operating companies in the history of the industry development. FDI Intelligence FDI Intelligence is a bimonthly magazine dedicated to the area of foreign investment and is part of the Financial Times, a renowned British publication specializing in economics and business. One of the annual publications of the FDI Intelligence is the Winners Report, which presents the range of the best Global Free Zones. In 2015, Dubai’s DMCC free zone in the United Arab Emirates was selected as the World’s Best Free Zone. 76 industrial parks from around the world were evaluated during the competition, and 33 were selected. The Dominican Republic was among those selected, with the Santiago Free Zone Corporation being crowned the winner in three categories and the La Romana Free Zone receiving a special recognition.
